COLOMBO (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has invited the three retired judges, who were part of the Interim Committee formed by Minister Roshan Ranasinghe on Monday, to form an independent committee of its own.
SLC said the mandate of the committee will remain the same as outlined in the gazette issued by the Minister on Sunday, when he appointed the Interim Committee.
"Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is committed to upholding the principles of integrity, transparency and accountability in the administration of cricket in Sri Lanka. In line with this commitment, SLC has taken a proactive step to invite respected individuals appointed by the Minister of Sports through a recent gazette notification to form an independent committee," a statement from SLC read.
The committee will consist of Retired Supreme Court judges S.I. Imam and Rohini Marasinghe and Retired High Court Judge Irangani Perera.
The mandate of this committee will be to inquire into and recommend appropriate action in relation to the references contained in the Audit Report dated 11th September 2023, issued by the Auditor General and making recommendations and formulating strategic actions to ensure the prevention of corruption, malpractices, irregularities, misconduct, and failures as referred to in the aforementioned Audit Report.
"SLC believes that this initiative reflects SLC's determination to address any shortcomings or irregularities within its operations and to take necessary actions to improve transparency and integrity. As nominated by the Minister by his Gazette, the involvement of esteemed members who served in the judiciary further emphasizes the commitment to a fair and impartial process while safeguarding the autonomy of the institution," the statement also said.
"We are confident that the committee will play a crucial role in ensuring that the sport of cricket in Sri Lanka is conducted with integrity, fairness, and adherence to best practices and to clear any misconceptions among the public."
"We look forward to the insights and recommendations that this committee will provide and are fully committed to taking appropriate actions based on their findings," SLC also said.

Parliment should send these slc jokers home with the power they have. Slc is dissolved and they cannot enter the premises either. Only the temporary comitee barres for 2 weeks. Probably minister should also get an interim order as he has all the powers.

Request by corrupt SLC Executives to some of the Interim Committee members to form an Independent Committee MUST be rejected by all the members of the Interim Committee as well as all the MPs in the Parliament.

So this means they also stay with the new interim committee?, I do not understand this invitation... Now what?. Misused money should be returned. They should be severely punished for their wrong doings. Roshan is a great Minister with the backborn.

Independent is an excellent word for politicians to steal public money and dignity! Since 1948 people have heard this word many-many times! Where is it now? We should implement an independent legal system to preserve all rights of the people! Now we have politicians dependent legal system and all collapse!

Ayio. What is this committee drama. No other country used the Commitee to hide its incompetencies like Sri Lanka.

committee to cover up a committee! what's the solution? keep picking hopeless players. Cut the amount of clubs down. Start by doing that. Identify, select and offer contracts to the best players in school cricket, at club level. Most school players leave the country for higher education because they see no benefit.
