Two veterinarians and the chief curator left for Thailand on Monday (4) for a discussion about the ongoing treatments for tusker ‘Muthurajah’, but not to assist in the ongoing treatments, National Zoological Gardens' Director-General Tilak Premakantha said.

He told the Daily Mirror that the programme will conclude on Monday (11) and the team will return to the country on Tuesday (12).

The local officials will discuss the treatments to the elephant currently given by the Thai government.

The Director-General said the group was sent on an invitation by the Thai government. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Just for discussing treatment why do 3 people have to go to Thailand at a lot of expense? Haven't they heard of Video Conferencing, Teams etc. Just another excuse for an outing at the expense of the tax payer.

It's ok as it's on an invitation. Whilst on the subject of care, why dont you push the government and its ministry to take care of our elephant in the wild. Just this week disturbing photos emerged of many elephants, including a mother and her baby, maimed and killed by electrocution and homemade bombs. It's another facet of shame and dishonour to the country on top of politicians robbing public funds.

wasting the tax payers money to go on a holiday in Thailand in the guise of checking on Muthurajah?? are they unware there is zoom and google meet for video conference ?? what sort of a joke is this?? is Thailand paying for this or is the Sri Lanka tax payers paying for the trip?
