Sri Lanka's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed concern over the attacks and escalation of violence and the resulting loss of lives in Israel and Palestine.

In a statement the Foreign Ministry said Sri Lanka calls for an immediate halt to violence and also calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent further civilian casualties.

"Sri Lanka remains committed to supporting a negotiated settlement in line with internationally agreed parameters of the two states living side by side on the basis of the 1967 borders. We extend our deepest condolences to all those who lost their loved ones and express our sympathies to the affected families," the Ministry said.

The Sri Lanka Missions in Tel Aviv and Ramallah are monitoring the situation closely and are in contact with Sri Lankans living in the affected areas.

So far one Sri Lankan has sustained minor injuries.

By Gad, sir! Be concerned about the pathetic situation in your own country instead of exhibiting false concern in others.

Sri Lanka should take care of its own filth, which there is in abundance in this country. Until Sri Lanka has dealt with its own war criminals, it has no right to act as a moralizer on the world stage.

Wow! With this statement please apply for the next year's Nobel Prize. You will probably win. A bonafide grievance by a minister in Sri Lanka.

    Does anyone take SL seriously.

Sam Silva Sunday, 08 October 2023 05:19 PM

Exactly. Just because a third world country which is bankrupt and corrupted asked to halt the violence they are going to get scared. First take care of our burning issues in our country. Stupidity never stops.

1967 ,seven day war thought how powerful Isreal was. It is foolish to start a war with Isreal, 50 years after 1967 war, technology has advanced in warfare. Isreal or any nation has a right to exist. Annihilation of one race, similar to Adulf Hitler's gas Chambers against Jews, should not be repeated. Peace and negotiations would yield lasting solutions.

Ali Sabry, please concentrate things happening in your own country. There is no law and order in your country. Politicians are above the law. Corruption is very high. Minorities are treated like animals in your country. Law is in the hands of AG.

Mohammed Amnawar Monday, 09 October 2023 01:25 AM

Ali, please go with your family using own stolen funds and help the victims! What a funny man you are like your unwanted Boss! Do not show your Heluwa like him! Soon you will need to fly out with your family to a foregn property bought through stolen money through Gobbaya (GpRa) regime by saving him!

@ Karalasingam Sivalingam, Israel provided Kiffir planes, Dvora naval craft, weapons, technical assistance and intelligence to enable us to win the war and commit massive casualties. If we asked them they would have manufactured and shipped portable extermination chambers to us. The shekel is their only conscience and consideration

Please explain to me what does the Sri Lankan government's official statement have to do with its own "shitty" situation in the country, as critical commentators believe!? From a special moral position, the country's government did not speak here at all! Sri Lanka also does not moralize on the world stage and war crimes have been committed not only by the SL Army but also by the terrorists under the leadership of Prabhakaran!!! The Foreign Ministry expresses its concern about the acts of war and calls on both parties to stop them in the interest of the people! What is reprehensible about it, what is worthy of criticism!!!??? The government's statement on the war in Israel is completely within the framework of normal diplomatic practice and is not objectionable!

Why didn't Sri Lankan authorities express concern snd issue a statement for an immediate halt to the invasion and resulant violence when Russia invaded Ukraine ?
