The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) expressed doubts on President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s assurance that salaries of public servants will be increased through next month’s budget.
“There is much confusion with regard to the assurance given by the President even among the Cabinet ministers. Minister Bandula Gunawardene has already indicated that there are no funds to increase salaries. Against such a scenario one wonders how the President would increase salaries,” SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara told a news briefing today.
“The President should state as to how he is going to increase salaries and from how much,” he added.
Also the SJB General Secretery was critical of National People’s Power (NPP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake who had held a forum in the USA recently.
“Dissanayake and his party have been critical of the USA and India until recently. However, we see the US national flag behind him during his recent forum. This is the man who once stated that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement with USA will harm the country. His party once wanted people of Sri Lanka not use Indian goods. However, we have heard Dissanayake saying that a future NPP government will work with India. Has his party changed the policies adopted by its founder leader?” Madduma Bandara questioned.
