SJB invites UNP to form grand alliance; Sajith to be common candidate

While revealing that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is currently engaged in a dialogue to form a grand alliance to contest future national elections, an MP representing the party said the UNP and its leader President Ranil Wickrmesinghe are welcome to join this alliance as allies.

“The new alliance would be an SJB led one and President Wickrmesinghe and the UNP can join this alliance. The UNP can join the SJB led alliance as a minority party,” SJB MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha told a media conference.

“The UNP is only a minority party as it has no vote base,” he said.

“Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa would be the presidential candidate of the grand alliance. One could call him the common opposition candidate, the MP added. (Yohan Perera)

Good idea. But Sajith should not be the leader. He doesn't have leadership qualities. Even though people hate Ranil for decades of propaganda carried out against him by SLFP, he has better leadership qualities. That's is the bitter truth

What a miserable state the SJB must be in when MP Jayamaha, quite officially at a media conference, proposes to the UNP and Ranil to enter into a party alliance led by Premadasa! Should this proposal be interpreted as a political tragedy, a comedy or a horror film!? As a political observer and connoisseur of Sri Lanka, one can almost no longer comment on the grotesqueness of such election recommendations and initiatives! Here a politically active person shows his complete lack of reality and aloofness in favor of his own interests in power! Sri Lanka really deserves better than such politicians at this time!!!

UNP has its ups and downs. 1n 1956 when Bandaranaike with the Sinhala only slogan was victorious, with UNP having secured only 8 seats but UNP again bounced back. Under today's economic revival of Ranil, one cannont prophecy that UNP has no public support, with fuel availability, prices coming down, queues vanishing for fuel and gas, RW has built public confidence. Whether SJB could join UNP or UNP to join with SJB is yet to be seen after a presidential election. Ups and down in politics is unpredictable.
