Colombo, Jan 5 (Daily Mirror) - Questions are being asked on how the grassroots level members of Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) have taken the latest situation where outsiders keep joining the party and some newcomers being appointed as organizers.
The latest to defect towards SJB was one-time minister Dayashritha Tissera, the son of SLFP old guard Protus Tissera. He was appointed as the SJB Organizer for Nathtandiya yesterday.
Some senior SJB members including General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara, National Organizer Tissa Attanayake, Harsha de Silva, Eran Wickramaratne and Niroshan Perera were present at the opposition leader’s office to welcome Mr. Tissera.
SJB Puttalam District MP Hector Appuhamy was a notable absentee.
When contacted by Daily Mirror, MP Appuhamry said he could not make it for the welcoming as his vehicle was out of order.
MP Gayantha Karunatileka who commented on the appointment of Shan Wijayalal de Silva as the SJB Organizer for Ambalangoda said, that Wijayalal de Silva could win a large number of votes from the coastal area from the Galle District.
“Some party members in the area may not be happy about getting him into the fold but such decisions have been made to strengthen the party’s position,” he said.
Meanwhile, party leader Sajith Premadasa said SJB member Chithral Fernando had sacrificed his organizer’s post for Tissera while Bandula Lal Bandarigoda gave up the post of Ambalangoda organizer to accommodate Mr. de Silva.
“We will not discard Mr. Fernando and Bandarigoda but will accommodate them in the party. SJB does not discard people after making use of them,” he said.

Are we to assume that local politicians are patriotic so as to sacrifice their entitlement to newcomers? My god! What is happening now in Ceylon? Patali is shedding tears for the sons and daughters of drug peddlers, knowing very well the kids will take over from where their parents left!
Sarjit wants to stay as Opposition Friday, 05 January 2024 08:55 AM

SJB days are numbered with these old Fellas Friday, 05 January 2024 09:06 AM
With the direction Sarjit is steering SJB, it will loose out “big time”. Looks like he just wants to stay in opposition

SJB should consult all his party members when roping in MPs or supporters of other political parties. Besides, they hv to keep a close watch on the new comers as they might hv ulterior motives. Warning to SJB.

Absolutely correct. Mr. Rodney Frazer ignored which is very bad as he toiled in Maharagama following the departure of Patali from SJB.

I have noticed elsewhere that there are obviously many politicians in Sri Lanka who change their basic political beliefs and attitudes more often than they change their underwear!!! You have to seriously ask which people are changing and what are their goals? An analysis probably shows that they make such changes primarily for personal, egoistic motives, with the aim of continuing to exert political influence! In Sri Lanka, this approach is particularly appropriate at this point in time (elections!) when polls signal the death of the old political “homeland”! It remains highly questionable, indecent political behavior that both voters and the leadership of the elected party should view with more than skepticism!!! Using the example of the SJB and Premadasa's welcome, it can already be said that the "newcomers" will not be an asset to the party and will not bring any more votes!!! Premadas should present Fonseka, the only formidable presidential candidate!!! That would get votes

These politicians are well aware that their camps are going to be wiped out in the elections. Sajith needs to be more vigilant instead of embracing such chameleons.

Bad precedent to make new entrants organisers as it smacks of corruption. Sajith said he will not give carrots to new entrants. As usual talk only but sure to backfire in the end with the old and new pulling in two directions - internal rivalry..
Ranjith Friday, 05 January 2024 05:37 PM
More people would join SJB to form a common front
Sambo Friday, 05 January 2024 08:15 PM
This is the beginning of the end for SJB by taking individuals from other parties. Take an example from the NPP.

This will make more division in the party and also in the eyes of average voter it looks there is no difference between the SJB and pohottuwa
