When NPP was blindly making promises to bring the USD to Rs.100/-, they failed to take into account that the cost of NPP's election too would be required to recover when in power from Projects and other tricks of the trade.

The currency of the Sri Lankan Rupee cannot advance against the strong currencies of the strong countries of this planet as a bankrupts country's currency has to go down against every other currency, and sri lanka is so bankrupt. The rate is made up by the central Bank, as the sl Rupee can not be traded anywhere on the planet. Please understand this finally!!!

So sad our rupee is dropping. Why? Everything goes up in price. Why can't they strengthen the rupee by manufacturing quality products here.

Aid money coming in due to Ditwah should have enabled the rupee to appreciate if not stay stable as dollars get converted to Rupees. This suggests that other outflows such as paying for new vehicles must be higher. Only those who earn foreign currency should be allowed to import and the import tax must be collected in foreign currency. Secondly the permit system helping the wealthy such as doctors buy vehicles with less tax sould be reformed. Why do they for example need new vehicles every 5 years?
