Colombo, Feb. 12 (Daily Mirror)- A total sum of Rs 20 billion is needed for the presidential and general elections, Director General Election commission Saman Sri Ratnayake said.
Ratnayake told journalists that he had already informed this matter to Parliament and to the finance ministry.
The Presidential election is due this year while the term of the present Parliament would end in 2025. However there are constitutional provisions for the President to dissolve Parliament anytime after it completes four and a half years of its term as per the 21st amendment to the constitution.
The government had pledged that the presidential election would be held this year while the opposition had alleged that there is a sinister move to abolish the Executive presidency without holding the presidential poll.

Have Parliamentarian elections only. These parliamentarians will eventually nominate either the President or Prime Minister who will have executive powers. The other will serve as the assistant or just ceremonial duties. This will cut cost at all areas

Hold both elections together and reduce the expenditure.

Please have both on the same day. It is easier for the administration, and costs would be less and would be easier for the voters also.

You don't need an election at least for another ten years until then let Ranil run the country, spend 20 billion on public services such as hospital priority.

It seem so expensive ..can we not have a plan to employ the paid public officials to conduct the duties at the polling booth and other professional duties as part of their daily duty ..so that expenses could be trimmed for this essential rite of a democracy ..elections held to exercise the sovereign power of the citizens of a country ...
