Rough sea conditions forecast in several coastal areas

Colombom January 2 (Daily Mirror) - The Meteorology Department has warned that sea areas off the coast from Galle to Colombo, Puttalam, Kankesanthurai, Trincomalee, and from Batticaloa to Hambantota may become somewhat rough due to the development of a low-level atmospheric disturbance to the east of Sri Lanka.

According to the Department, wind speeds in these sea areas could increase to around 50 kmph, while other sea areas around the island may also experience moderately rough conditions.

The Department further said that showers are expected at times in the Eastern, Central, North-Central and Uva provinces, as well as in the Hambantota District. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely in some areas of the Central and Uva provinces, and in the Batticaloa and Ampara districts.

The Department has urged the fishing and naval communities to remain vigilant and pay close attention to future weather forecasts and official announcements issued in this regard.
