Colombo, January 1 (Daily Mirror) - The number of deaths caused by traffic accidents in 2025 has increased by 322 compared to 2024, according to the police.
Police Spokesman ASP F. U. Wootler said that in 2024, a total of 2,287 fatal road accidents were reported, resulting in 2,388 deaths. However, in 2025, the number of fatal accidents rose to 2,562, causing 2,710 deaths.
Meanwhile, ASP Wootler said that new features have been introduced this year to the 'E-Traffic' application launched by the Sri Lanka Police to curb traffic violations.
He explained that under the updated system, pedestrians, passengers, and drivers can quickly inform Police Headquarters via the 'E-Traffic' application if they observe illegal driving or traffic-related offenses.
