Colombo, Nov. 27 (Daily Mirror) - The right section of the Bentota Old Bridge reportedly collapsed last night (26) due to ongoing adverse weather conditions.
Built around 1902, the bridge was a vital link along Galle Road, connecting the Western and Southern Provinces. It had been closed to the public several years ago after falling into disrepair, with the government initiating construction of a new bridge at the time.
In recent years, the old bridge had also become a popular spot for tourists and photographers. Authorities have not reported any casualties related to the collapse.
