The Cabinet Ministers have approved the revision of the Kandyan Marriage and Divorce Act that requires parental consent for the marriage of a minor and to remove the existing non-conformities.

A legal draughtsman has prepared a bill for this purpose, and the clearance of the Attorney General has also been received for this.

Accordingly, the cabinet ministers approved the proposal presented by the Justice, Prison Affairs, and Constitutional Reforms Minister to publish in the Govt. Gazette and consequently table it in parliament for approval. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Doe it mean a minor can marry without the consent of his/her parents? I though the revision was all about child marriages
