Reveal why US$129 paid to procure one MT Gas: Dayasiri asks PM

SLFP MP Dayasiri Jayasekara today urged Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to reveal as to why a metric tonne of gas was purchased at US$129, whereas it was earlier bought at US$95 and said people are accusing all the 225 MPs for these misdeeds.

He told Parliament that Attorney-at-law Nagananda Kodithuwakku in a video posted on social media alleged that a metric tonne of gas was purchased at US$129 whereas it could have been bought at US$95.

"He accused all 225 MPs of defrauding money through this deal. It is an unreasonable allegation as we were not aware of such deal. It is the Cabinet and the Prime Minister who have struck the deal. We were not in the tender committee. The Prime Minister should reveal as to why the decision was taken to purchase a metric tonne of gas at US$129," he said.

He said no solutions to the economic crisis has been brought in by Parliament even though Parliament was being convened for months.

"Parliament has not been able to find solutions to the burning issues. It should be done by government and the Cabinet. If no solution is brought in by Parliament, it should not be convened," he said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
