Red alert declared: Evacuation orders issued for four districts

Colombo, February 21 (Daily Mirror) - The Disaster Management Center (DMC) has initiated the evacuation of residents to safe centers following a red notice issued by the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) today (21).

Director of Preparatory Planning, acting on behalf of Director General Chatura Liyanarachchi said according to the NBRO announcement at 7p.m, landslide hazards are likely on roads passing through steep slopes, valleys, earthen embankments, and other high-risk areas within the Yatinuwara, Yatiyanthota, Rattota and Ratnapura Divisional Secretariat Division in the Kandy, Kegalle, Matale and Ratnapura Districts.

In response, authorities have urged residents in affected areas to move immediately to designated safety centers and have called on all media outlets to disseminate the alert widely.

The Disaster Management Center’s Liyanarachchi, highlighted the importance of following evacuation instructions to ensure public safety.
