Colombo, July 3 (Daily Mirror) - A special operation to expedite the reconstruction of the Kandy–Colombo main railway line between Kadugannawa and Rambukkana, which was severely damaged by Cyclone Ditwah, commenced today (July 3).
As railway access remains obstructed, two railway carriages carrying communication equipment and construction materials were transported from Kandy to Peradeniya Railway Station by road after being removed from the rail network.
A notable feature of the operation was the use of a heavy-duty transport truck manufactured in Sri Lanka to move the railway carriages, demonstrating local engineering capability.
The two carriages have now been successfully delivered to Peradeniya Railway Station, while arrangements are also underway to transport the locomotive to Peradeniya using the same heavy transport vehicle as reconstruction efforts continue.
