Colombo, Nov 27, (Daily Mirror) - In the aftermath of the decision to send Sri Lankan expatriate workers to Israel despite the conflict in the Gaza Strip, Minister of Labour Manusha Nanayakkara said that they are even prepared to send workers to Palestine, Russia or Ukraine, if those countries assured that there is adequate security for Sri Lankan workers.
The minister said that certain Members of Parliament have discussed sending Sri Lankan workers to Israel to enhance their support both within and outside the parliament.
Addressing the conflict between Israel and Palestine, the minister emphasised the country's non-aligned foreign policy, condemning attacks on both sides in the past.
He stated, "When there were conflicts between Israel and Palestine when the Hamas organization came and killed and attacked Israeli civilians, we unanimously condemned it. Now we condemn the attacks on Gaza by Israel. As a country, we are neither on the side of Israel nor on the side of Palestine. We operate on a non-aligned foreign policy," he said.
He clarified that the decision to send workers to Israel is based on an existing service agreement between Sri Lanka and Israel.
Furthermore, Minister Nanayakkara also highlighted the government's priority of ensuring worker safety.
After educating our kids with free education, foreign employment minister is keen to send them to war zones as labourers and house maids.
They think it is an achievement.

What else can these free education Freaks perform to be employed overseas or Locally!!!??? Ineptness of the Education Ministry!!! They have now determined, the ministry is QUALIFIED to distribute Sanitary Napkins!!! Collecting Votes for his election!!! That program should focus on Rural areas first!!! The inadequacy is greatest in remote villages, NOT cities and NOT western Province!!!???
Jokers, why can't the Minister of Social Services or Samurdhi do that instead!!!???

This Minister makes best use of his portfolio to earn big money for his family for 2 to 3 generations.

What is the use of a government if it cannot provide employment for it's citizens? High taxes are driving our brightest and best away at lightening speed.
DP Monday, 27 November 2023 10:52 AM
Wow manusha, do we even have the security in SL patta talk
ChildOfGod Monday, 27 November 2023 10:56 AM
Minister has forgotten that Karma finds its way to the 3rd and 4th generations. I cannot understand why the Minister even brings the topic of sending workers to the 3 mentioned countries, when they are ALL at war and will be for a long time to come. Minister should be FIRST creating JOB in the COUNTRY. OH! LORD work a MIRICLE, so those in authority, use their GOD GIVEN brains to work together.

There is no assuarance, safety or money here so they may want to make a move out of hungry for hope or exit hopless these very politics created and enter into anywhere no matter to the chaos of visala mahanuwara worse than ukrain or israel.
I’m sitting on the fence. No comment please. Monday, 27 November 2023 12:11 PM
No worries. Can give assurances on paper. What happens on the ground is anyone’s guess. I’m scratching my head wondering how you became a minister? Remember non-aligned does not mean “no comment” policy, otherwise it should be called “sitting-on-the-fence” policy.

They don't care where they send workersbor their safety, they just want their commissions
Acid Monday, 27 November 2023 01:54 PM
Are you mad? Israel, Palestine, Ukraine are all war zones. What sane person would ever send workers there at this point of time! Russia is vast, so workers can stay away from the conflict.
Government is only worried about sucking up and getting money, and not a shred of concern for peoples safety!
Ram Monday, 27 November 2023 02:17 PM
Manusha will send the workers to the troubled areas as the workers only risk their lives, when Manusha is enjoying the fruits at home

Glad to see ALL comments seem to be on the same page. If I was the MINISTER, I would have handed in my resignation with immediate effect but then AGAIN, I am NOT. High time RANIL started commencing proceedings against the SHARKS who are responsible for bringing the Country down to the state it is in, and funds recovered as top priority. Delays will only see the PRESIDENT ousted in the next elections and the country in a bigger mess than it is in.

Permit anyone willing to go to overseas to overcome their difficulties and manage the economic crisis.

This minister is displaying a heightened lack of knowledge and level of ignorance. Russia prefers and prioritises workers from former Soviet republics like Tajikistan, Turkmenistan etc and North Koreans and even there are Chinese construction workers in the far east. Russians are not going to employ or want our most educated devout patriotic citizens to work as labourers

Why don't you go first and lead the way for the others. You will not be missed by any one.
Paramanathan Tuesday, 28 November 2023 09:06 AM
This man is another liability is clueless of what he is doing. He is brainless and without a vision for his people. President Ranil Wickremesinghe prefers such kind of people to fool around.
Susan Tuesday, 28 November 2023 10:29 AM
Minister has a vision and target,it’s how to collect millions in commission through bogus agencies working underhand with him, target is amass as much as possible before election
