Former Sri Lankan Minister Ranjan Ramanayake arrived at Katunayake International Airport today with a supply of brand-new laptops intended for schoolchildren and university students.
The laptops, totaling 250, were donated by supporters in Singapore, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai. Mr. Ramanayake stated that an additional 10,000 laptops would be received from international donors in the future.
The priority for distribution would be given to students who received higher marks in the Grade Five Scholarship Examination and higher island ranks in the CGE Ordinary Level examination, with the intention of continuing their studies in the Information Technology (IT) stream.
The laptops will eventually be distributed to all schoolchildren and university students in need. Mr. Ramanayake expressed gratitude to those who donated the laptops for his charity program.
In April, 116 laptops were distributed to schoolchildren and university students, with an additional 23 laptops given to students in rural areas. He also expressed thanks to the individuals involved in the donations, as well as Sri Lanka Customs officials for providing tax concessions to bring the laptops into the country.
