Ranil summons all political parties to discuss disaster situation

Colombo, Dec. 1 (Daily Mirror) - Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe called all opposition parties for a discussion on the current disaster situation, his office said in a statement.

Wickremesinghe is expected to brief the party representatives on the steps that have been taken by previous governments to prevent natural disasters such as floods.

Previous governments turned a blind eye, when government officials took bribes and allowed illegal construction without proper planning permissions. People had grabbed land, built construction on edge of streams blocking flow of water which caused flooding the cities and roadways. Ranil is trying to use this disaster for his political gains and this is not the time for petty politics. If you have the will to help people, get down, get the funds to help the people.

Why is this private meeting of some old outdated politicians becoming a news item? Let them meet and have their 2 cents worth discussed amongst themselves. If they want to be constructive and useful let them communicate their suggestions to the democratically elected govt. Ranil had his chances at leading this country. He did what he can and we can appreciate the good stuff he did. But now the people defeated him and elected another bunch. So allow them to perform. If the current lot fail we as people will defeat them too at the next election.
