Colombo, June 12 (Daily Mirror) - Prisons Commissioner Gamini B. Dissanayake has tendered his resignation letter to Acting Prisons Commissioner Nishan Dhanasinghe, stepping down from his role as media spokesperson for the Prisons Department.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Acting Commissioner Dhanasinghe confirmed the resignation but said that no decision has yet been made regarding the appointment of a new spokesperson.
Dissanayake’s resignation comes in the wake of the suspension of Prisons Commissioner General Thushara Upuldeniya. Following the suspension, Dhanasinghe, who also serves as an Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Justice, was appointed Acting Prisons Commissioner.
Meanwhile, the government has turned its attention to reorganising the Prisons Department. As part of this restructuring, several changes are expected in the prisons across the country.
