The price of Urea fertilizer will be further reduced during this Yala season, Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said.

He said this while making his presence at the occasion of distributing the fuel donated by the Chinese government to farmers in Agunakolapalassa.

He also said that the price of a bag of urea, which was sold at Rs.10,000 in the high season, will be reduced to between Rs.7,500 and Rs.9,000 and given to the farmers.

In addition, the minister told the farmers that Rs.6,500 million have been credited to farmers' accounts at the rate of Rs.10,000 per hectare and another Rs.1,500 million has been given to the farmers who have not received the money immediately.

The minister aslo said that all these concessions were given by the government to the farmers to reduce the production cost of the farmers and to protect the farmers as well as the consumers. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Good news to everyone. Now the comments that will follow on this News are, that the timing of it is manipulation of Govt. to win votes. I wish if all including opposition parties, NGOs, Religious Leaders Civil Societies, BASL Trade Unions, Uni-Students Union, etc had agreed for a time frame to hold the LG elections by Jan. 2024, by which time IMF conditions could have been fulfilled and the Country could have been to the path of recovery, and ready to face an election, where people could vote based on the programs of each party / aligns with a level playing field, without being immotional. Also by which time the Committee report could be implemented on the reduced numbers of LG members from 8000 to 5000. During this critical time the resultant savings could be huge. If necessary a date for the General Election too could be agreed upon. It is nothing but the opponents of the Govt. are determined to cash in the displeasure of the population and win. Opposition party should represent the aggrieved citizen, and present the people's grievance to the rulers and assist to find ways to give relief. But here we see opposition parties behave like hyenas to become ruler; They have tasted the luxury of power. So, "To Hell with Public Grievance." Price of Urea has come down from 600 USD to 390 per ton in the world market. Of course the prices will come down if government is not intervening.
