President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, yesterday instructed the Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi to appoint a National Action Committee (NAC) to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Sri Lanka.
Therefore, the committee members comprising of the following officials were appointed by the President for the implementation of health measures and future programms to prevent the spread of the disease in Sri Lanka.
Governor of the Western Province Seetha Arambepola was appointed as the president of the National Action Committee. Rear Admiral Jayanath Colombage, Health Ministry Secretary Bhadrani Jayawardena and Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe were appointed as the members of the committee.
Dr. Sunil De Alvis, Lakshmi Somathunga, Dr. Nihal Jayathileke, the specialist Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya, State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC) Chairman Dr. Prasanna Gunasena, Specialist Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, Director General Army Health Services and Brigadier Krishantha Fernando, Chief Epidemiologist, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera, Dr. Paba Palihawadana, Director of the Medical Research Institute (MRI) Dr Jayaruwan Bandara, Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited Chairman G.A. Chandrasiri and the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration were appointed as additional Secretaries of the committee.
The committee was appointed following a discussion held at the Health Ministry by the Minister seeking immediate actions that should take concerning the spread of coronavirus in the country. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
