President’s fund aids Bandarawela student with monthly scholarship

Colombo, July 11 (Daily Mirror) - The President's Fund has granted a monthly scholarship of Rs. 25,000 to support the medical treatment of a student injured in a laboratory accident at Dharmasoka College, Bandarawela, and the education of her siblings.

The student sustained severe burn injuries on March 23 while conducting a starch test in the school's laboratory after chemicals used during the experiment reportedly boiled over and caught fire.

Following the accident, she was admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo, where she underwent specialised treatment for more than a month. Although her condition has improved, she continues to receive ongoing medical care.

The assistance was approved after the student's mother submitted a written request to the President's Fund, citing the family's financial difficulties.

A group of government officials, including Presidential Media Division Director Sisira Senpathi Kahawatte and the Bandarawela Divisional Secretary, visited the family's residence today (July 11) to officially hand over the scholarship.

The President's Fund said the Rs. 25,000 monthly assistance will be provided continuously to support the education of all four children in the family, including the injured student, while also helping meet her future medical expenses.
