The first phase of the program to plant three million jackfruit trees across the country, under the theme ‘Guwan Hamuda Herali Perali’, was launched today at the Anuradhapura Air Force Base under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

This program has been implemented in conjunction with the government’s food security program with the aim of creating a local and foreign jackfruit market and to promote jackfruit among the Sri Lankan people.

Under this program, seventy five thousand jackfruit trees are expected to be planted within this year.

The book ‘Guwan Hamuda Herali Perali’ written about the jackfruit plantation was also presented to President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

In addition to jackfruit cultivation, this book also contains information on related products.

Minister of State for Defence Premitha Bandara Tennakoon, President’s Senior Adviser on National Security and Chief of Presidential Staff Sagala Ratnayake, Secretary of the Ministry of Defence General Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) and several others attended the event.

Of course, did you want to continue imported ham and bacon with so many chemicals added? Did you want to eat imported foreign food? . Then , you better leave and make a living by driving a taxi in one of your favourite countries. Here, you need to start eating Jack Fruit otherwise when you land on your favourite country you can eat imported jackfruit in Tins too. The western people are wise enough to start eating Jack Fruit due the immense medicinal attributes.

Very good initiative. Jack Fruit tree is one of the most useful trees. We also need coconut trees. Some young people cam use their minds to invent some machinery to automatically cut and clean these harvests.

These saplings better be planted in people's private home-gardens or village community plantations; not in unprotected public as there be no Kos forthcoming as prior all Polos would already have been harvested prior by 'proletarian shoppers' ..

Ranil's mantra... "If they have no bread, let them eat breadfruit". Uncle JRJ introduced the country to "open market" and got everyone reliant on imported food ... Seems now we have to go back to the "good old pre -JRJ days and become self sufficient once again. What a ridiculous turn of events...
