Colombo, Dec. 7, (Daily Mirror) The United Postal Trade Unions Front (UPTUF) has decided to launch a 48-hour token strike from Sunday over several demands, including a salary increase of Rs. 20,000 to all postal workers starting from the January payroll.
UPTUF convener Chinthaka Bandara told the Daily Mirror that the token strike will be launched at 4 p.m. on Sunday (10) and continue until midnight on Tuesday (12).
The UPTUF demands to immediately stop the decision by the government to sell the buildings where the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya post offices are located, to provide immediate solutions to the administration issues in the Postal Department and demands a salary increase of Rs. 20,000, apart from the Rs. 10,000 to all postal workers from January.
Accordingly, 653 post offices, 3 410 sub-post offices, and nearly 27,000 control offices will come to a standstill for 48 hours, Bandara said.
