Police urge public not to share holiday plans on social media

The police today urged the public not to share their information on scheduled activities such as planned tours during the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year festive season on social media platforms such as Facebook.

Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that organized criminals can use such information to carry out robberies and break into houses during this period.

Therefore, he warned the public to refrain from sharing sensitive information on social media such as their whereabouts outdoors.

He advised those leaving their homes to activate their CCTV cameras and to monitor the footage regularly to prevent robberies.  (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
