Police launch month-long special program to reduce traffic congestion in WP

Arrangements have been made to conduct a month-long awareness program for drivers, passengers and pedestrians to reduce the traffic congestion in the Western Province, the Police announced.

Police said this program would be held from March 01 to 31st of March covering all Police areas in the Western Province.

During the program, certain offences will be given priority and awareness activities will also be carried out.
Police said the program had been launched under the instructions and guidance of the DIG in charge of the Western Province Traffic Division.

Accordingly, driving without a driving license, driving under the age of 18, driving without revenue licenses, or insurance certificates, violation of traffic rules, faults related to roundabouts and at pedestrian crossings, driving in lanes, violation of traffic signals, faults made at bus stops, parking of vehicles in prohibited areas and riding motorcycles without safety helmets will be strictly monitored during the program. Why is Police not checking and arresting all the Private Busses who break ALL road rules ALL the time ! Private busses are menace to society and no Policeman is interested in stopping them or fining the drivers ! Why is this ?? Are they on the private bus owners influence ??

Discipline the three wheels and buses. The traffic is naturally solved. Lane discipline should be made mandatory. Then no need of new roads. Existing roads are very much enough.

No-one drives with proper lane discipline even on the express ways in Sri Lanka as they do not know what driving on the lane means. Most drivers are having one set of wheels on one lane while the other set is on the next lane. If this is so even on express ways , the lane discipline is worse on normal roads. Continuously honking and flashing headlights are other two die hard bad habits trying to show that 'I am the king of the road, get out of the way' , all drivers have this mentality .

Very easy entire day strictly follow the bus lane , traffic can be controlled for a greater level. Busses , not only private now CTB drivers also don’t follow any rules
