Colombo, Dec. 24 (Daily Mirror) - A police constable was injured in a firearm accident at the Ambalangoda Police Station this evening, police said.
The incident occurred when the constable, who had arrived to report for duty, was checking his service firearm when it accidentally discharged. The bullet struck him in one of his legs.
He was immediately transported in a police vehicle to the Balapitiya Base Hospital for treatment. Hospital sources said his injuries are not serious and that his condition is stable.
Police have launched an inquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
