Police Sergeant killed while attempting to stop illegal sand transport

Colombo, March 28 (Daily Mirror) - A police sergeant died after being hit by a tractor that was illegally transporting sand.

The incident occurred in the Kodikamam area, where a police team was engaged in a road inspection operation.

When officers attempted to stop a tractor carrying sand, the driver accelerated the vehicle, rammed into the police officers, and fled the scene. 

As a result of the collision, Police Sergeant Alfred lost his life.

The body of the deceased officer has been handed over to the Chavakachcheri Police Station. 

Meanwhile, special police teams have been deployed to arrest the tractor driver responsible for the incident, and intensive investigations are underway.
