Police Sergeant killed in Weligama raid promoted posthumously

Colombo, Jan 2 (Daily Mirror) - Police Sergeant Upul Chaminda from the Colombo Crimes Division who was killed in a shooting during a raid in Weligama has been promoted posthumously.

The Sergeant died and a Sub-Inspector was injured due to a shooting incident while they were conducting a raid in Weligama on December 31.

Police said the Acting IGP granted the promotion with effect from December 31 under the post-promotion basis as the officer died while on duty.
