Pilot project to run electric buses to reduce cost



To reduce the cost of importing fossil fuels from abroad, the Highways Ministry has decided to introduce buses that can be powered by renewable energy sources.

Addressing the media Bandula Gunawardana, Minister of Transport and Highways, said that the resolution to implement the public-private partnership project was presented to cabinet ministers.

He said the operation of electric buses by the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), centered on the commercial city of Colombo and the Gampaha district. 

The implementation of a pilot project based on a formal feasibility study was approved by the cabinet ministers. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
