SLPP MP Pavithra Wanniarachchi and Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) MP Jeevan Thondaman were sworn in as cabinet ministers before President Ranil Wickremesinghe earlier today, the President's Media Division said.
Wanniarachchi took oaths as the Cabinet Minister of Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation while MP Jeevan Thondaman took oath as the Minister of the Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development.
Following these appointments Thondaman becomes the youngest minister in the cabinet and according to sources inside the Presidential Secretariat, he had been requesting for a portfolio from the President for a while.
In May last year, Thondaman had publicly announced that he was ending his 15 year relations with the Rajapaksas and had added there was no need for him to hold office in the former government, which had caused so much suffering to the people.
Thondaman had fucntioned as the State Minister of Estate Housing and Community Infrastructure Facilities under Gotabaya Rajapaksa's government.
