Colombo, April 19 (Daily Mirror) - A request by some MPs across the political divide for concessionary vehicle permits is likely to be shot down by the party leaders given the dire economic situation of the country, Daily Mirror learns.
Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Eran Wickramaratne brought to the notice of the Business Committee last week that a letter is being signed by the MPs for such a request.
He said such a request would tarnish the honorary services of the MPs and therefore such facility should not be granted to them in adherence to due protocols as in the case of other public servants and judicial officers.
However, SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa and Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella said at the same meeting that such a request should not be entertained at all due to what they called bankruptcy of the country.

Clearly shows the mentality of the average politician. Doesn’t give a darn of the ground situation and more interested in their personal lives and interests. They clearly and rightfully MUST be removed in the next elections. Can’t accept these politicians and tolerate these kind of actions and attitude. Need to blame their parents too for not educating them on the correct path.

We must find a candidate who is promising to repeal their damn pension and other perks of these self serving politicians

For once, sanity will prevail if the party leaders collectively will agree not to accept the request. Buy SL is a different kind of country.

Only in SL. Why should such permits be given to these looters?

There are large numbers of vehicles belonging to different state organizations that are idling in various garages / parking yards. Most of these can be repaired and put to use. Also, many ex-public persons, including MPs, Ministers, and Presidents, have not returned official vehicles (example, KR). Why not sort these issues to solve legitimately and official transport needs.

It is legal way to steal public money. Can you release the list of MPs who signed it? It would be good to see if any MP representing our area signed for it. People are struggling for even one meal. They wanted to still steal public money

Sometimes I wonder the vast majority of Sri Lankan’s are educated and able to think what’s right and wrong. Yet uneducated people are voted in to run the country and to run the lives of the educated people. End of the day, something is not clicking correctly!”

Obscenities like this ( permits) should evoke quick and unequivocal comment by the JVP/NPP that these practices will be permanently banned under their governance. But they remain silent. Are we to assume that their current “honesty” is only due to lack of opportunity ? And given an opportunity they will be like “pigs at a trough.”

Thanks to Mr. Eran Wickramaratne for standing for the right move. Yes, why we spend our sweat to buy Luxury vehicles to good for nothing MPs, mostly from SLPP I hear.
Sam Silva Friday, 19 April 2024 05:48 PM
All those so called luxury cars on the roads should be extracted and dispose them so no one could use them.

@Consequences of Voters Ignorance. You are absolutely right. SL is full of fools who believe in divine interventions and foolish superstitions and equally ignorant in sending fools to Parliament. The country will never develop.

Those MPs vying for elections know will lose the seat that they fortunately gained in the last eletions, therefore, they are heading for such a request to earn something throug CORRUPT PRACTICE. Also, Ranil wanted to give them a GIFT to retain in power. But everything will fail ultimately, Rajapaksa wins the election. Wait and See.

No country in the world give such Pin benefits to MPs! All are like Pinas came from Muwamnpalassa eating Pin Bath! They do not deserve any vehicles as people are suffering with no medicines and food! Children are struggling with no books! Pinas are enjoying!!
