Pahala Kadugannawa closed again as night-time rock blasting continues

Colombo, Dec. 5 (Daily Mirror) - The Colombo–Kandy main road has been closed once again from the Pahala Kadugannawa area from last evening until further notice, police said, as large rocks posing a risk are being blasted at night.

The road, which had been reopened to vehicles from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. since December 3, was shut to facilitate the removal of unstable rock formations along the upper slopes of the Kadugannawa pass using controlled blasting.

Following the blasting operations, officers from the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) will carry out inspections, after which a decision will be taken on when the road can be safely reopened to traffic.
