More than six million people in the country who are over 20 years of age have not received the COVID booster vaccines, the Health MInistry said.
Speaking to the media, Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Samitha Ginige said that it is imperative for the people to get booster vaccines to safeguard themselves from the widespread COVID infections. Also there are several cases of infection are being reported these days.
People who have received only two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have reduced levels of immunity to fight the virus, the doctor said.
He also mentioned that Pfizer vaccines that can be provided as the boosters are available at the government health warehouses.
Dr. Ginige also urged the public to get the relevant dose of the booster vaccine as early as possible since there is no shortage of vaccines at present.
He also said that it is possible to get the necessary vaccines from the offices of the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) and hospitals. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
