Over 20,000 troops deployed to rescue people affected by severe weather

The President has directed the Army to provide immediate assistance to those impacted by the prevailing adverse weather conditions across the island. Over 20,500 Army personnel have already been deployed to carry out rescue operations.

Yesterday alone, the Army rescued around 3,790 people, bringing them to safe centers. Heavy flooding, landslides, and road closures in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Badulla have made operations challenging, but the Army continues its efforts to reach those in need.

The Sri Lanka Navy and Air Force are also actively supporting the rescue operations.
