Colombo, Feb 26 (Daily Mirror) -  Opposition parties have decided to bring in a no confidence motion against Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena a short while ago.

SJB MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha who confirmed the move at a media briefing said the Opposition parties decided to bring in the no faith motion as the Speaker had violated Parliamentary procedures by neglecting instructions given by the Judiciary with regard to the Online Safety Bill.

"The no faith motion will be handed over within the coming days," Bandara said.

The decision on the no faith motion was made during a meeting of the Opposition parties today.

Is there any chance of passing it without having majority support ?

    sam Monday, 26 February 2024 12:14 PM

    Waste of time

This is reality Monday, 26 February 2024 12:17 PM

Think before you leap! If your intention is to make the Speaker "more popular" then go ahead. These guys will never learn.

The most spineless speaker we ever had.

    HE DESERVES THE NCM

Excellent move. Then the whole world can realise what a herd of cattle the opposition is led by the cow Sajith. They just want to be in the limelite every fortnight or so by doing something stupid and useless like this. The last time it was a rally that was attended by a small number of people, although they threatened the roads were going to be blocked etc etc.

The opposition might as well bring in a motion of no-confidence against the opposition.

Speaker must go, but this no faith motion is sure to lose and is not the way to go

    Grace Monday, 26 February 2024 03:36 PM

Don't waste your time and our tax money by bringing No Confidence motion against the speaker because it will be defeated with the support of our noble patriotic MPs whose conscience is above everything.

    Onlooker Monday, 26 February 2024 05:27 PM

Agree it will be like the NCM against Keheliya. These SLPP crooks have banded together to do as they please with no conscience.

Podi Hadaya Monday, 26 February 2024 03:40 PM

This speaker is bias no integrity no ethics not an example

A NCM against the speaker will not be successful. It could end up like Kehelmala Rambukwella’s case. The opposition might be able to show an attempt was made to remove the speaker of the parliament. Charge him for nepotism, find all his relatives employed illegally and get rid of them. Expose all his corrupt activities. This is better than a NCM.

This allows the citizens to identify the dishonest politicians who will now support the Speaker.

    Sambo Monday, 26 February 2024 08:04 PM

There should be a no faith motion against all the 225 in the parliament.

Harak Pala Tuesday, 27 February 2024 02:59 AM

Alli Baba want to protect him by voting against it. So, basically, Rajapaksha clan to suppress people, as usual, though 6.9 Million people did not realize it and all the other people suffer altogether.
