One death every three or four days occur due to COVID: GMOA

The situation has arisen in the country to report one death every three or four days due to the spreading of the COVID-19 virus in the country, the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) said.

Addressing the media, GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said the death due to COVID-19 in the country has increased to 30%.

A new COVID variant is currently spreading in the world and the government does nothing to prevent it. Travel restrictions in several areas in China have already been imposed. We cannot be sure that the new variety has already entered the country.

Therefore, authorities must consider bringing back the mask mandate once again at least in high-risk areas, he said.

Technical committee members should be recalled as they have not been summoned during the past few months.

Dr. Aluthge said people should follow the basic health guidelines as wearing face-masks is considered the best deterrent against the COVID-19 virus. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
