No service extension to FCID chief

President Maithripala Sirisena declined to grant another service extension for the head of the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) Senior DIG Ravi Waidyalankara, it is learnt.

The cabinet paper seeking a service extension was presented earlier. The Police Department was not under the purview of the President at the time.

However, at Tuesday's cabinet meeting, the President withdrew the paper. The Cabinet also endorsed the President’s stand that no further service extensions should be granted to the senior DIG after the first service extension ends on March 30.

The FCID was set up by the government in 2015 to probe allegations of corruption during the rule of the former government. (Kelum Bandara)
