Colombo, January 6 (Daily Mirror) - A police officer attached to the Nilaveli area, alleged to have accepted a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from an individual in order to issue a police report, was remanded till January 20 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today.
The order was made when the suspect was produced before court by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
Presenting further facts to court, the Bribery Commission stated that the suspect had accepted a bribe of Rs. 10,000 in connection with the issuing of a police report.
The order followed submissions made in relation to a complaint lodged by a female complainant from the Nilaveli area.
Appearing on behalf of the suspect, defence counsel informed court that the complainant had falsely levelled allegations against the suspect due to a personal dispute.
After considering the submissions, the Magistrate ruled that no exceptional circumstances had been presented to justify the granting of bail and accordingly ordered that the suspect be remanded till January 20.
