Colombo, March 18 (Daily Mirror) - A special discussion was held today between the Minister of Health and Mass Media, Nalinda Jayatissa, and representatives of Meta to explore practical measures to prevent the spread of misinformation on social media platforms.
The Ministry said the meeting, held at the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, focused on enhancing digital security measures and strengthening the dissemination of accurate information to counter false and misleading content online.
Attention was also drawn to improving the reliability of digital content and promoting responsible information sharing among users.
The discussion further explored collaboration between the Government of Sri Lanka and Meta to address the growing issue of illegal drug use among youth. This effort aligns with the government’s Ratama Ekata initiative, which aims to combat drug trafficking and safeguard young people and schoolchildren.
Meta representatives expressed their willingness to extend support to the “Ratama Ekata” national programme, emphasizing a coordinated, multi-sectoral approach to prevention, awareness, and enforcement.
