NIE Director General resigns pending probe into grade 6 English module

Colombo, January 2 (Daily Mirror) - Director General of the National Institute of Education (NIE), Professor Manjula Withanapathirana, has decided to resign from her post pending the completion of an investigation into the controversial Grade 6 English Module.

The decision follows a notification issued by the Prime Minister, according to informed sources.

The Grade 6 English Module has come under intense public scrutiny after content similar to material found on a website was identified, triggering widespread debate and criticism. In response, the Ministry of Education has launched a comprehensive investigation to examine errors in the module and identify lapses in responsibility during its preparation.

The investigation is expected to determine accountability and recommend further action based on its findings.
