Mobile screening for HIV, STDs begins in Colombo, Gampaha

Colombo, July 10 (Daily Mirror) - The Health and Mass Media Ministry has launched a mobile blood testing programme in Colombo and Gampaha districts to detect sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Hepatitis B and other infections.

The initiative is being implemented by the National STD and AIDS Control Programme through specialised mobile clinics that provide blood testing services within communities.

The Ministry said the tests are carried out on a voluntary basis while ensuring the privacy and confidentiality of those undergoing screening. Test results are provided only to the individuals concerned.

Officials said anyone found to have an infection or medical condition will be offered appropriate counselling, medical advice and treatment.

The Ministry said the programme aims to improve access to early detection and treatment while helping reduce the spread of sexually transmitted diseases in Sri Lanka.
