Minimum Wages Bill passed, amendments approved to two Budget Relief Bills

Colombo, July 22 (Daily Mirror) - The Minimum Wages Bill, which increases private sector employee minimum wages to Rs 27,000 from Rs. 21,000 from April this year, with a further increase to Rs. 30,000 from next year, was unanimously approved by Parliament without a vote today. 

Meanwhile, amendments to the Budget Relief Bill No. 4 of 2016 was approved by a two thirds majority with 181 members voting for it and no votes against. 

Amendments to the Budget Relief Bill No 36 of 2005 were also approved by a 181-vote margin, with no MPs voting against it.  

More than 40 members were absent during the time of voting.
