Medical specialists to refrain from private medical practice tomorrow to support struggle



The Medical Specialists Association(AMS) has decided to refrain from private medical practice tomorrow (9) in support of the islandwide peaceful protest campaigns tomorrow.

Members however said they will attend genuine emergencies such as accidents and other surgical and medical emergencies, as well as inward care for already admitted patients in the private sector. 

A medical specialist said the decision was taken in accordance with the earlier decision of the AMS to support the islandwide peaceful protest campaigns to pressure the current administration to step down, paving the way to an all-party administration.

"The AMS regrets the inconvenience caused by our actions to the general public who seek private medical care," they said.  

The AMS requested the public to attend state hospitals where specialists and other health personnel are committed to maintaining normal services in spite of restrictions created by fuel and medical supply shortage. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
