Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara, met with the Italian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Damiano Francovigh, to foster stronger bilateral ties and address pertinent issues concerning labor migration.
The focal point of their discussion centered on the renewal of the Bilateral Cooperation on Labour Migration agreement between the Government of the Italian Republic and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
During the meeting, Minister Nanayakkara brought to attention concerns regarding Italy's Job Quota system, emphasizing the challenges encountered by Sri Lankan job seekers in securing sponsors under this unique referral-based quota system.
Moreover, the discussion delved into issues concerning the Family Reunion Visa process for Sri Lankans. Minister Nanayakkara underscored the obstacles faced by Sri Lankan citizens, including extended delays, the DNA requirement, and external interferences in visa appointment processes. The Minister commended the Ambassador for his proactive efforts in addressing these external interferences.
