Maldivian hospitality company Sun Siyam Resorts is looking to expand its footprint in Sri Lanka with a new property in the pipeline, aiming to capitalise on combined dual-destination travel packages.
Sun Siyam Pasikudah General Manager Arshad Refai revealed that the 100 percent Maldivian-owned company is actively searching for an additional property to add to its portfolio. He noted that the group is exploring potential locations down south or within the island’s cultural triangle to further enhance its guest offerings.
The expansion aligns with the company’s strategy of promoting Sri Lanka and the Maldives as complementary travel destinations. Refai explained that they currently hold direct contracts with global tour operators to offer combined packages, typically featuring a five-night stay in the Maldives followed by a four or five-night stay in Sri Lanka. This approach allows tourists to experience the world-class beaches of the Maldives alongside the rich nature, wildlife, and cultural heritage that Sri Lanka offers.
Founded by Ahmed Siyam Mohammed, the group currently operates Sun Siyam Pasikudah, a 34-room boutique resort located on the northeastern coast. Originally launched in 2014, the five-acre property on a 33-year lease recently underwent a comprehensive refurbishment utilizing local artisans and locally sourced materials. Following a recent brand restructuring, the Pasikudah property now falls under the company’s Privé Collection, a tier dedicated to boutique, intimate, and secluded luxury.
Refai expressed strong optimism regarding the country’s tourism trajectory and the property’s future occupancy levels. Supported by a network of close to 40 representatives globally, he emphasized that the company invests in marketing not just its own resort, but Sri Lanka as a prime destination across international travel fairs.
