In a weather forecast for today, the Meteorology Department said mainly fair weather would prevail elsewhere over the island and a few showers would occur in Eastern Province (EP).
Meanwhile, there could be showers or thundershowers in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the afternoon or night.
Showers in the sea areas off the coasts of Batticaloa and Hambantota via Pottuvil also forecast.
Winds would be north-easterly and wind speeds would be in the range of 20-30 km/h. Wind speeds in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Colombo via Puttalam and from Hambantota to Pottuvil could go up to 40 km/h at times.
