Parliament, January 23 (Daily Mirror)- The charges for Memners' of Parliament is to be increased to Rs. 2,000 as per a decision by the Parliamentary House-Keeping Committe today, committee member Gamagedara Dissanayake said.

MP Dissanayake told the Daily Mirror that however, the extra Rs. 275 charged for a guest of an MP will remain the same.

Very good, president is keeping his promises to the nation. We have never seen these before and all the promises given were in the dust bin on the day they won the election. Gotha promised that no close relation of the parliamentarian were permitted to be appointed to the office of the parliamentarian and nepotism would not be permitted,but as soon as the parliament commenced Speaker of the new parliament appointed all his son son-in -law in his office totaling up to 4.

As a person fortunate to enough to enjoy the best of both worlds I thank my lucky stars I am not a low income worker in Sri Lanka. How these people survive beggars belief. Every government has failed to raise the living standards of the lower strata of society. Even worse, Dickensian working conditions have never been addressed. Kids working in supermarkets raking in billions, being deprived of social lives and, being expected to work 60hr weeks for 30,000 per month. Labourers being paid Rs 1000 per day. Can't anyone see the injustice ?

This government has taken the governing of this nation to a new dimension. Now the focus is on the price and the detailed menu of what our 225 MPs daily eat and how much they are charged for that. These bills have gone up from Rs 100 to 600 (breakfast), Rs 300 to Rs 1,200 (Lunch) and Rs 50 to Rs 200 (Evening Tea). The well known IMF recommended principle of ‘Cost Reflective Pricing’ is said to have been applied. The impact of this decision on our Rs 84 Billion economy must be carefully analysed by the Ministry of Finance and needs to be published to complete the whole exercise!

A 5 star meal ( breakfast Lunch ) how can be budgeted for Rs.2000 . It should be Rs.5000 to 7000 per day. It's crazy, government looking at this matter on a crazy, un professional manner. Our tax money getting wasted in a worst manner. All these ministers enjoying our tax money

Why should MP's get food served to them in buffet style. Give them the damn bath packet or let them bring food from home. No one gets a food allowance. President openly stated that MP's pensions will be abolished, have they done that? This government is leading us down the proverbial rabbit hole. Sooner or later something, somewhere is gonna give.
