Colombo, January 24 (Daily Mirror) - A shocking incident unfolded yesterday on the Jaffna–Kandy main road in the Kalukunnammaduwa area when a lorry deliberately struck two traffic police officers riding a motorcycle during a pursuit, police said.
A video of the collision, now viral on social media, shows the motorcycle becoming entangled with the lorry as it is dragged forward before the vehicle came to a stop.
According to authorities, the officers were chasing a small lorry that ignored repeated orders to stop. During the pursuit, the lorry rammed the motorcycle, throwing the officers to the side of the road. The driver abandoned the lorry and fled into a nearby forested area.
The suspect was later apprehended by Sri Lanka Army personnel near the Boo Oya Bridge and handed over to the police. The two injured officers were admitted to Vavuniya Hospital with serious injuries.
Police confirmed that the suspect and the lorry will be produced before the Vavuniya Magistrate’s Court, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
