While assuring to shift the Agricultural Ministry from the rented out DPJ building to the Govi Jana Mandiraya, Agriculture State Minister Vidura Wickramanayake said today legal action would be taken against officials and politicians involved in signing the agreement to rent out the building in Welikada, Rajagiriya.
The minister told Parliament that his office was today shifted from the rented out building to the Govi Jana Mandiraya where the ministry was housed earlier and said steps would be taken to shift the whole ministry to the Govi Jana Mandiraya.
He was responding to a question raised by JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake as why any action was not taken to remove the ministry from the DPJ building which was rented out at Rs. 23 million a month.
The Minister said there had been a fraud and corruption in renting out the building and added that it was an arbitrary action.
“We hope to take legal action against officials and politicians involved in signing the agreement to rent out the building. The farming community had not been benefitted from housing the ministry in a luxury building,” he said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
